A healthier Kitsap County through a shared vision and coordinated action on health priorities

WHAT ARE THE KITSAP COMMUNITY HEALTH PRIORITIES?

1) Ensure access to affordable medical, behavioral health, and dental care for all residents

2) Make it easy for all residents to be physically active

3) Ensure all residents have healthier food options

4) Promote economic development that provides living wage jobs with benefits

5) Ensure all children and youth receive the support necessary to be healthy throughout life

WHAT IS KCHP?

KCHP NEWS

KCHP is Kitsap County's health improvement process. In 2011, KCHP completed its Planning Phase where community representatives reviewed data, identified issues of concern and set the community health priorities listed above (See Previous Years Materials).

In 2012, KCHP began its Action Phase where three Working Groups formed to address the community health priorities. Working Groups are comprised of volunteer community members who have developed action plans with strategies and measurable objectives.

KCHP is an ongoing process; in 2013 we will update and review community data and evaluate progress on the health priorities.

KCHP Action Phase objectives:

1) Collaborate to address Kitsap's community health priorities by implementing strategies in an efficient and coordinated manner.
2) Use measurable objectives to track progress on strategies.
3) Maintain updated KCHP repository of community health data.

HISTORY OF KCHP:

Three community partners formed a Sponsor Group to initiate the KCHP process in December 2010: Bob Cross of Harrison Medical Center, Dr. Scott Lindquist of Kitsap Public Health District and Dave Foote of United Way of Kitsap County.

The Sponsor Group convened a Charter Group comprised of representatives from community organizations to be the KCHP think-tank tasked with reviewing and considering information gathered in the Planning Process. Charter Group members included: Mayor Patty Lent, City of Bremerton; Margaret Swigert, Department of Social and Health Services; Dr. Bill Morris and Robert Cross, Harrison Medical Center; Roxanne Bryson, Holly Ridge Center; Tony Caldwell, Housing Kitsap; Larry Eyer, Kitsap Community Resources; Dr. Scott Lindquist, Kitsap Public Health District; Joe Roszak, Kitsap Mental Health Services; Mary McClure, Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council; Lorraine Olson, Olympic Educational Service District #114; Barbara Malich, Peninsula Community Health Services; and Dave Foote, United Way of Kitsap County. As KCHP moved from a Planning Process into an Action Phase, the Charter Group was dissolved. In November 2011, Community Representatives, including former Charter Group members, organized into Working Groups to address the new Kitsap Community Health Priorities.
